Registered Dietitian Kelly Anne Erdman joins Global Sport Academy
Global Sport Academy and STIX Hockey are extremely excited to announce that registered Dietitian and Nutrition consultant Kelly Anne Erdman will be joining the organization, effective immediately.
“I will be providing practical advice in day-to-day nutrition support for athletes and their families as they juggle the busy hockey schedule, striving to eat well in order to maximize every ice session,” elaborates Kelly Anne on the details of her new role with Global Sport Academy. “Nutrition support has the players on many levels. Effective fueling advice before games and practices, nutrition for endurance for sustained efforts, and optimal recovery for training adaptation – training effect.”
“Beyond just nutrition before, during and after hockey, when eating well we have healthier players. And healthier players can work harder over time, they recover better, they miss fewer games and practices. They also learn life-long habits moving forward beyond hockey.”
Kelly Anne, a Registered Dietitian practicing at the University of Calgary Sport Medicine Centre, was a member of the Canadian National Cycling team and competed at the 1992 Summer Olympics in Barcelona, Spain. An inductee of the Alberta Sports Hall of Fame, Kelly Anne is a nutrition consultant to the Canadian Sport Institute – Calgary branch, where she has worked with a long list of national teams, including but not limited to Women’s Hockey, Men’s Sledge Hockey, Long-track Speed Skating, Luge, & Paralympics Cycling. She is also a consulting nutritionist with the Calgary Flames of the NHL as well as an instructor with the National Coaching Institute, where she teaches nutrition to national team coaches within the National Coaching Certification Program.
“Quadrant hockey years through Bantam and Midget programs are a time in the lives of most players for significant growth and development. Through understanding and implementing performance nutrition we will have players who continue to mature while getting stronger, fitter, and faster,” continues Kelly Anne. “We will be addressing practical food advice for a variety of scenarios from the importance of recovery nutrition, healthy snacks, quick meal solutions; basically, good nutrition for the whole family!”
“Interesting fact: the greatest energy (calorie) demands occur from 14-18 years of age; coincidentally, that aligns with the Bantam and Midget hockey age groups. Expect that some players will need over 5000 calories a day just to meet their nutritional requirements!”
Kelly Anne will begin working shortly with the Calgary Royals Athletic Association programs administered by Global Sport Academy. On behalf of the entire organization, we’d like to ask everyone to join Global Sport Academy in welcoming Kelly Anne into the fold!
